Projects

The purpose of the P2P weeks is to prepare volunteers for Touch to Teach (T2T) activities. T2T is the concept of mimicking Jesus who both “touched” people with love and “taught” the gospel. Directly following P2P SFO, there will be a 1–2 week opportunity to put these principles into action in a developed country context. Ideally T2T volunteers will also attend P2P SFO, but we will accept T2T attendees who can’t come to the training.

Northern California Projects

July 10–16, 2011

Volunteers will be divided into three teams, each serving in one location for the week. Teams will be created to balance volunteers’ skills, ages and experience. The local ecclesias will prepare the activities for the week, but there will be opportunities for volunteers to help design their own activities and use their talents in order to spread the gospel.

If there is enough interest, we will offer a second T2T week in the San Francisco Peninsula ecclesia from July 17–23.

San Francisco Peninsula

Redwood City is a diverse suburban town, with a high Latino immigrant population.

The main focus of the week will be hosting a Vacation Bible School (ages 5-12) at the hall. Volunteers will spend the morning helping to teach classes and lead the activities. The children attending the VBS will be a mixture of our own Sunday school students and neighborhood children.

In the afternoons we will be doing a variety of community service activities from organizing a food drive, writing letters to prisoners, and leading Bible classes. Afternoon off activities will include: a trip to the beach, hiking in the Redwood forests, and fellowshipping with local brethren.

Tentative Schedule

Sacramento

Sacramento is the capital of California and is a diverse urban area about 1.5 hours north east of San Francisco.

  • Serving the hungry by hosting a food drive in the neighborhood and volunteering at a local food bank
  • Working with the homeless at a local shelter
  • Reaching out to the large Russian community through using the brethren’s contacts and hosting a seminar evening

Afternoon off activities will include: visits to Old Town Sacramento, visit Lake Tahoe and fellowshipping with the brethren
